There are only few people who brought their native country Somalia into repute. Iman is one of those. Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid was born on July 25, 1955, in Mogadishu, Somalia. Actually, Iman is a man's name but the girls parents decided in would help their daughter to strive in Muslim East Africa. Being a girl, Iman studied at private Catholic school. In 1973, when she was a student of the University of Nairobi, Iman was discovered. Peter Beard, a known photographer in fashion world, was in Nairobi that time and saw Iman in the street. He offered her a photo shoot and Iman agreed. Then he brought Iman's photos to New York and convinced everybody she was a discovery of exotic beauty. When in four months Iman came to New York, she was already famous. She was offered a contract from modeling agencies and became successful in both haute-couture runways and photos. Peak of Iman's popularity and fame was in 70s and 80s. Overall, she changed the comprehension of beauty by her unusual look. Currently, she is a successful businesswoman, owing her line of cosmetics. Also she is known as an honest wife and loving mother of two children.
